A well-made pour-over can transform your day, but even the greatest baristas are inconsistent: just ask one to craft the exact same cup two times in a row. We dreamt up a process that is scientifically and chemically more attuned towards effective and precise extraction of coffee than any other brewer. Ground Control brews coffee in the most consistent, efficient and beautiful method possible.

 

After countless hours, some amazing and supportive early adopters, an incomprehensible amount of coffee consumption, and many, many refinements, we launched Ground Control in 2015. 

 

We are now recognized for producing exceptional batch coffee that many refer to as significantly and consistently exceeding the quality of a well-crafted pour-over. But don’t just take it from us; hear what our respected customers have to say!

The impact of our new chemistry-driven brewing philosophy is apparent in every component of Ground Control. These extraction and design innovations are what allow for 8-minute cold brew and iced latte concentrates brewed by the batch.

Eli Salomon
Co-Founder & CEO

Eli first conceived of a new way forward for batch brewing while reflecting on the limited success of small coffee serving businesses in the US.  After realizing that batch brewing could play a critical role in increasing café revenues, reducing costs, and producing a wider variety of higher margin beverages, Eli began researching possibilities.  The first person he called to discuss his analysis was his friend of 20 years, Josh Avins. The rest is history.

 

Eli earned a B.A. and M.A. in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins, a J.D. from Harvard Law, and his MBA from Wharton (U Penn).

Ground Control was launched in Eli's kitchen in June, 2013.

THE CHEMIST

Dr. Josh Avins
Co-Founder & CTO

Josh & Eli met and became great friends during their undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins. Josh proceeded to earn his PHD in Chemistry from Columbia before working as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois.


When Eli began working on his new path forward for batch brewing, Josh was the first person he called. A flight to San Francisco was quickly booked to help validate the idea and build the initial prototype. Using chemistry inspired processes to maximize and optimize extraction, Ground Control was born.

 

Josh soon made the move to San Francisco to launch the company, and now heads R&D while overseeing our production and customer success efforts.

THE COFFEE GUY

Jason Sarley
Co-Founder & Chief Coffee Officer

After Josh and Eli invented Ground Control, they quickly reached out to Jason to validate and better develop what had been discovered. Once Jason realized the potential of Ground Control, he was soon brought on as co-founder.

 

With his extreme depth of coffee knowledge and experience, Jason has been the guiding force in perfecting our extraction capabilities allowing us to produce the best cup of coffee possible from your coffee beans


Jason is Associate Editor of the Coffee Review with Kenneth Davids, one of the Internet’s most respected coffee publications and laboratories.  Jason is a certified Q-Grader (Arabica) and holds a roaster certification from the Roasters Guild of the Specialty Coffee Association.

 

Jason was recognized by the SCA in 2017 as a Re:Co Fellow.

MR ICED LATTE

Jeff Garon
Director of Business Development

After a chance conversation about coffee with Eli on an elevator ride in San Francisco, Jeff was intrigued by Ground Control.

After trying some truly amazing coffees on the machine, he was sold on the premise and joined the team soon after.

 

Jeff is now spreading the word through sales, marketing, partnerships and beyond, evangelizing Ground Control to customers around the world.

 

Jeff's focus is to ensure that our customers get the most from their coffee, while also transforming their business's efficiency, success and profit.  

If it wasn't apparent, Jeff drinks a lot of iced lattes.
